LeAnn Rimes - Dance Like You Don't Give A...Greatest Hits Remixes

The Country star has had a string of chart hits throughout her nearly 2 decade career. A number of her singles were remixed for the clubs and she had success on the Club Play chart. An album consisting of both previously unreleased and released mixes was released last week. It is completely unmixed and features remixes of some of her biggest hits as well as a few other selected singles that didn't quite get the attention they deserved. Every single one of these remixes is melodic and is a good match for the original song. The highlights include the remixes of "Gasoline And Matches", "You've Ruined Me", "Can't Fight The Moonlight", "I Need You", "How Do I Live", "Strong", "Nothin' Better To Do", and "Headphones." This is an outstanding collection of remixes.

Tracklisting:
01. Gasoline And Matches (Dave Aude Remix)
02. What I Cannot Change (Kaskade Remix)
03. Crazy Women (7th Heaven Remix)
04. I Need You (Digital Dog Remix)
05. Help Me Make It Through The Night (Fear Of Tigers Remix)
06. Spitfire (Fagault and Marina Remix)
07. Can't Fight The Moonlight (Alias Remix)
08. You've Ruined Me (Dave Aude Remix)
09. How Do I Live (Cahill Remix)
10. Strong (Cicada Remix)
11. Nothin' Better To Do (Soul Seekerz Remix)
12. Headphones (Headspinners Remix)
13. Grace (LeAnn Rimes and The Crystal Method)

Lana Del Rey - Young And Beautiful (Offer Nissim Remix)

The haunting original was given an official remix by Cedric Gervais who had previously remixed "Summertime Sadness". That other remix managed to be picked up by mainstream radio and it was a huge hit all over the world. The "Young And Beautiful" mix was cut from the same cloth. The remix sadly lost some of the charm that the original had.

A couple of days ago, Offer Nissim has posted a remix he made of the song that stays true to the original (it actually uses the minimally produced song to get the vocals). It begins in a dark, beatless fashion as the original does. As the vocals come in, it builds up and the beats come in. After somewhat of a buildup, a riff finally arrives. The riff is inspired by Deep Zone's underground classic "It's Gonna Be Alright (Help Is On The Way)". The second verse plays after that. Only the bridge has been omitted, however, that's okay.

Robyn - Call You Girlfriend

This is her latest single from the Body Talk album. On "Call Your Girlfriend", Robyn is telling her man to inform his other girlfriend that he is leaving her. The synthpop drenched song has a similar tone as earlier smash "Dancing On My Own", however, this one isn't so melancholy. The original is pure dance/pop perfection. There are remixes by Sultan & Ned Shepard and Kaskade. Sultan & Ned Shepard harden things up with their aggressive electro-house mix. Kaskade's mixes pack the same punch but are a little mellower. There is also the bass-heavy electro Feed Me mix. Overall, the Kaskade mix is the best of the bunch.

VA - Just Dance 2

This is the second release from the new series this year. The first release which came out a few months back was fairly successful. This releasese, too, features a good blend of both dance remixes of non-dance songs and some pure dance songs too. The significant majority of the songs and their versions have been previously released. One of the exclusives is the new Jump Smokers mix of "Russian Roulette" by Rihanna which is not available anywhere else at this time. Only a couple of songs are a bit older, however it's great that those have been included as they do deserve to be heard by a wider audience.

Tracklisting:
01. Rihanna – Russian Roulette (Jump Smokers Remix)
02. Mariah Carey – Obsessed (Jump Smokers Remix)
03. Honorebel featuring Pitbull & Jump Smokers – Now You See It (Club Mix)
04. Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You (Chriss Ortega Club Mix)
05. Tinchy Stryder featuring Taio Cruz – Take Me Back
06. The-Dream featuring Kanye West – Walkin’ On The Moon (Seamus Haji & Paul Emanuel Club Mix)
07. Kim Sozzi – Cry Tonight (Kiss Me Back) (Extended Mix)
08. Jessica Jarrell – Armageddon (StoneBridge Club Mix)
09. Kristinia DeBarge – Goodbye (Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Club Remix)
10. Noisettes – Don't Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go) (Dave Audé Club Remix)
11. Armin van Buuren feat. Jacqueline Govaert – Never Say Never (Alex Guadino Remix)
12. Kaskade with Tamra – Angel On My Shoulder (EDX’s Belo Horizonte at Night Remix)
13. Calvin Harris – I'm Not Alone (deadmau5 Mix)
14. deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember (Vocal Mix)

Soulsearcher - Can't Get Enough

It's hard to believe that this was released over 10 years ago! Soulsearcher was made up of producer Marc Pomeroy and singers Donna Allen and Thea Austin. Marc has been a part of other projects such as Cleptomaniacs ("All I Do") and Jazz-N-Groove. In addition to doing backing vocals for other artists, Donna Allen has released a few tracks of her own. Thea Austin is known for her vocals on SNAP!'s "Rhythm Is A Dancer" and "Colour Of Love" as well as a host of other songs. As the UK-based Defected Records is celebrating its 10th anniversary, some remixes have been released for this club classic. "Can't Get Enough" was huge on both sides of the Atlantic. The Henrik B and Hy2rogen & Nikola are in a similar vein. Both sound completely different from the original song. They are in an Electro/House vein (think Deadmau5, Kaskade, Adam K & Soha). They are just okay. Those liking that sound will like those. The Layabouts mix is a bit Housier. It calls to mind what The Wideboys do on their mixes. Guy Robin's mix is the closest to the original. It's basically a cutup of the original with some Electro elements. It's effective. Also included in the package are the classic original mix and the Jazz-N-Groove mixes. Other than the original, the Guy Robin mix is the only one that contains the Gary's Gang sample.

Overall, this update is decent. Not necessary, but it's good for introducing this song to a whole new generation of clubbers and DJs who may not have experienced this song the first time around.
